Switch from 2FAS to Tokn
2FAS is a solid open-source authenticator, but its backup story leans on Google Drive. Tokn reads 2FAS backup files directly, so switching to a fully offline vault takes just a few minutes.

How to switch, step by step
- 1
Export a 2FAS backup
In 2FAS, open Settings, then Backup, and export a backup file to your device. Set a password so the file is encrypted.
- 2
Install Tokn
Get Tokn from Google Play or F-Droid. There is no account to create - set a vault password or fingerprint unlock and you are ready.
- 3
Import the file in Tokn
In Tokn, open Import, choose 2FAS, pick the backup file, and enter its password. All tokens come across in one pass.
- 4
Verify and clean up
Check that a few codes match, create an encrypted Tokn backup, then remove your accounts from 2FAS and delete the exported file.
FAQ
Common questions
Can Tokn read password-protected 2FAS backups?
Yes. Tokn imports 2FAS backup files directly - for encrypted ones you simply enter the password you set in 2FAS.
What do I gain over 2FAS?
A fully offline design with no cloud components, encrypted local-network sync for phone-to-phone moves, and backups that never leave your control. See the full comparison for the feature-by-feature view.
Will my account names survive the import?
Yes, your tokens import with their issuer and account names. Afterwards you can add custom icons and sort everything into groups.
