Where Tokn pulls ahead
Everything in Tokn is yours. The vault is encrypted on the device, backups are files you control, and moving phones works over the local network with end-to-end encryption. There is no phone number to register, which also means no target for SIM swapping or number leaks. In 2024 an incident at Authy's parent company exposed millions of user phone numbers; an app with no account has nothing comparable to lose.
Where Authy is better
Authy's cloud sync keeps several devices in step automatically and recovers your tokens if your phone disappears, as long as you keep access to the account. If hands-off multi-device sync outweighs open source and data control for you, Authy still does that well.
